UT on Burnt Orange Alert

From an email sent out to all UT-Austin students, staff, and faculty by VP for Employee & Campus Services, Rhonda Weldon on Friday, February 7th:

In response to President Bush raising the national threat level to orange (high), our campus will institute various security measures. Faculty, staff, and students can expect the following:

Effective immediately
Campus tours and events

  • UT Austin Tower tours are cancelled until further notice
  • Individuals attending special events on campus may experience moderate delays due to additional security measures. Officials advise arriving early for events at any of the campus public venues.

Effective Monday, February 10, 2003
Campus access and parking

Vehicles without UT permits will NOT be allowed to enter the main campus. They will be directed to the parking garages. Pickle Research Campus will direct vehicles without UT permits to designated lots. Exceptions to this measure are as follows:

  • Visitors authorized by a Vice President or Dean who present identification
  • Vendor vehicles displaying company name or logo. Drivers of vendor vehicles displaying company name or logo will be asked to present their operator licenses and company identification card.

All vehicles entering campus may be subject to random consent searches.

Building access

  • A metal detector will be placed at the Tower entrance
  • Only authorized personnel will be allowed Tower accessPhoto identification and key will be required.
  • Selected buildings will be secured at all times

Effective Monday, February 10, 2003 Campus access and parking

From 7:30am-4:00pm Monday through Friday, vehicles without UT permits will will NOT be allowed to enter main campus and will be directed to park in University garages. Pickle Research campus will direct vehicles without UT permits to designated lots. Exceptions to this measure are as follows:

Visitors authorized by The President's office, Vice Presidents and/or Deans who present identification. To obtain authorization: Vice Presidents or Deans must call (471-5283) or fax (232-9405) Parking and Transportation Services in advance with: name of visitor, date and time of expected arrival, and guard kiosk location where visitor will arrive.

Vendor vehicles displaying company name or logo. Drivers of vendor vehicles will be asked to present their operator's license and company identification card.

The Braker Lane entrance to the Pickle Research campus will be closed until further notice. Enter the PRC via Burnet Rd.
