UT ranks No. 4 in patents received

The University of Texas ranked fourth among universities in the number of patents received in 2004, according to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The University of California topped the list for the 11th year, with 424 patents. UT, which received 96 patents, is the only Texas school on the list.

The report is a preliminary list subject to correction. A final list is expected in December.
